James joined the team in November 2022. He trained in Veterinary Medicine from the University College Dublin after graduating from University of Glasgow with a honours degree in Zoology and a Masters of Science in Animal Welfare and Law.
James’ early animal career started right in the family home with a menagerie of animals ranging from hamsters, reptiles, chickens, cats and dogs. His family were involved with breeding briards. During school he worked part time in dairy farming and after school went to South Africa to work with wildlife and game.
After finishing his veterinary medicine degree he moved back to England to work in a London-based veterinary clinic that worked alongside the RSPCA and Metropolitan police dogs as well as day to day veterinary clinic duties. He then moved onto a larger company based across central London which included specialist procedures, emergency out of hours care within their three central hospitals supplied by 52 local small clinics, equipped with endoscopy, CT and MRI imaging. James enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine, but in particular surgery.
In 2019 James moved to New Zealand, initially working in central Auckland before shifting to a clinic in South Auckland. James moved back to central Auckland with his adopted stray cat Matilda. In his free time James enjoys travelling, hiking and kayaking. Antartica is the only continent he’s not been to... yet!
